UPDATE ON NKULA B MAINTENANCE WORKS
The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) is informing its stakeholders and the general public that maintenance works on the one machine that was remaining at its Nkula B power plant have now been completed.
While EGENCO restored other four machines at Nkula B on 27 December 2020, it had to conduct further repairs on the unit which had the burst pipe. This machine took longer than anticipated because investigations revealed a much more complicated problem other than the burst bypass pipe. Investigations and the repairs took much longer as they were complex.
Now that the works have been completed, the machine has been restored and is now back into production. Therefore, all five power generating machines from Nkula B power plant are now fully operational and supplying a total capacity of 100MW to the national grid.
EGENCO sincerely regrets any inconvenience that the emergency shut down and subsequent maintenance works may have caused.
EGENCO is thankful to its stakeholders and the general public for their support, patience and understanding.
