MAINTENANCE WORSK AT KAPICHIRA POWER STATION DURING THE 2020 EASTER HOLIDAYS
The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) is informing the general public and its stakeholders that it will carry out major maintenance works at its Kapichira Power Station during this year’s Easter holiday period, from 03:00pm on Friday, 10th April 2020 to 07:00pm on Tuesday, 13th April 2020. The maintenance works are aimed at improving the performance and efficiency of machines at the Kapichira Power Station.
In order to successfully carry out the maintenance works, the power generation machines at Kapichira Power Station will not be in operation during the entire maintenance period. As such, 97.2MW from Kapichira Power Station will not be available. However, power generation at Nkula, Tedzani and Wovwe Power Stations will be in full operation. EGENCO will also operate its diesel power generators at Mapanga Substation in Blantyre and Kanengo Substation in Lilongwe. The available generation capacity from these machines will be 241.45MW.
EGENCO further informs the general public and its stakeholders that these major planned maintenance works require long outages. The company therefore, takes advantage of long holiday periods such as Easter Holidays where demand and use of power is low in order to carry out such importance and necessary maintenance works.
EGENCO apologises for any inconvenience these maintenance works may cause. However, it is assuring the general public and its stakeholders that it will work closer with the Electricity Supply Cooperation of Malawi Limited (ESCOM) to ensure that the impact on customers due to the maintenance works is minimal.
EGENCO will continue to update the public on any power generation developments happening within the Company through its Public Relations Office.
