EGENCO SPONSORS 10 FEMALE STUDENTS FROM CHIKWAWA SECONDARY SCHOOL
On Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) presented a sponsorship of MK2, 500, 000.00 to Chikwawa Secondary School towards tuition and upkeep allowances for 10 female students selected as beneficiaries of EGENCO’s scholarship of female secondary school students.
Lucy Semphere, Acting Gender and Social Inclusion Manager at EGENCO said this is part of the Company’s efforts of empowering young girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
“This initiative is part of EGENCO’s ongoing efforts of increasing the representation of female engineers in the country by sponsoring high-performing female students in secondary schools.” said Semphere.
Priscilla Bickson, one the beneficiary students said the scholarship will help her achieve her dreams.
“We are grateful to EGENCO for this generous support; it will go a long way in helping us achieve our academic goals and pursue our dreams,” said Priscilla.

In 2019, EGENCO established a scholarship for female students as a way of encouraging young girls to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The scholarship extends to tertiary education.
