EGENCO ENGAGES STAKEHOLDERS ON SALIMA SOLAR PROJECT

Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) on Friday, 17th August 2024 engaged various stakeholders including the Salima District Council Management, traditional and community leaders at a meeting held at Ubuntu Lodge in Salima aimed at raising awareness about the Salima Solar project.

EGENCO’s Senior Projects Manager, Harry Msosa appraised the stakeholders that the project is currently underway and will add 50Megawatts to the national grid.

“The project will be implemented in three construction phases of 10MW, 10MW and 30MW respectively. The phase for the initial 10MW started on 5th July this year and is currently underway.” Said Msosa.

Construction is underway for EGENCO’s 50MW Solar Power Plant in Salima

District Commissioner for Salima, James Mwenda, commended EGENCO for bringing the project to the district and assured the Company of his support and collaboration throughout the project’s duration.

“We are happy that EGENCO is implementing this project in our District as it will alleviate electricity challenges and create job opportunities for people in Salima. We assure you our support throughout the project.” Said Mwenda.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in 18 months at an estimated total cost of $13,545,953.78.
