Zoa Hydropower Project

Zoa Hydropower Project

Project Description

The republic of Malawi and Mozambique intends to build a 40 megawatts Zoa Hydro Power Plant at Ruo River on the Zoa Falls.  Zoa Falls is a small waterfall located in the remote area of southern Malawi and northern Mozambique on the Ruo River which borders the two countries. The two countries will establish an international joint Zoa Hydropower Commission (ZHC) to manage the water resources of the basin.

The first phase of the project will involve conducting a feasibility study and producing detailed designs of the power plant.

The project will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the transition to low carbon Energy Sources, supporting global efforts to mitigate climate change.
