EGENCO POWER PLANTS SET TO UNDERGO REHABILITATION

The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) is set to rehabilitate its Kapichira 1 and Nkula B power plants in line with the Company’s strategic plan of providing reliable power.

According to Shadreck Chado, Power Station Manager at Kapichira Power Station, the current equipment at Kapichira 1 and Nkula B is obsolete, affecting the efficiency of the machines.

“The rehabilitation will not only modernize the power plants but also ensure more reliability”. Said Chado.

Power Station Manager for Kapichira Power Station, Shadreck Chado, briefs Fitchner Consultants during their tour of Kapichira.

Currently, a feasibility study aimed at producing tender documents for the recruitment of a contractor to rehabilitate the power plants is being undertaken by Fitchner, a German Company, with support from the SWED Fund.

The rehabilitation project is being funded by the African Development Bank.
