2024 GIRLS SCIENCE CAMP VISITS NKULA

On Wednesday, 10th July 2024, the Electricity Generating Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) in partnership with the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) organized an industrial tour at Nkula for the 2024 Girl’s Science Camp.

This event was part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Camp, which is designed to motivate girls throughout Malawi to explore science and encourage them to pursue careers in engineering.

EGENCO’s Interim Gender and Social Inclusion Manager, Ethel Bvalani, stated that such initiatives are crucial in a company where men are the majority and there are only a few female engineers.

Bvalani highlighted the importance of women’s presence in decision-making boards, especially since they are the main users of electricity.
Bvalani expressed, “It is essential to have a sufficient number of women studying engineering. This will enable companies like EGENCO to involve these women in board meetings and participate in decision making.”
