Mapanga Diesel Generators

EGENCO’s 20 Megawatts Diesel Generators destined for Mapanga in Blantyre arrived in the country on Wednesday 14 March 2018. Installation for the same has since commenced. There are 10 generators each producing 2 Megawatts and it is expected that the diesel generators will be commissioned by end of April 2018.

Unlike the Mzuzu generators, that were commissioned by EGENCO in December 2017 and January 2018 respectively, the Mapanga generators are not containerized. They will be housed in a diesel generator Power House currently in its final stages of construction. The generators have been procured by EGENCO from Techfab International and are not leased. The engines were manufacture in Japan and the transformers in India. It is expected that after commissioning, the power situation in the country will continue to improve.
