The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) has sponsored 10 secondary school girls to participate in this year’s Girls Science Camp at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Ndata, Thyolo. The Camp is running from 19 August – to 28 August 2018.

According to MUST, the Camps are organised against a background of very few girls opting for science and technology related programmes in higher education institutions in Malawi, which is also reflected at MUST. The Camp is therefore one initiative aimed at motivating and inspiring the girls to pursue science and technology related fields.

The construction of Tedzani IV hydropower plant at Tedzani Power Station was officially launched on 4 July 2018. Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining Honorable Aggrey Masi presided over the launch of the construction project for the 19.5 megawatt power plant.

In his remarks, the Minister thanked the Japanese Government for the timely assistance. He said the 19.5 megawatt will go a long way in helping Malawi to deal with power shortage that the country is experiencing. The minister further said government is committed to address the power challenges in the country and that in the medium to long term the matter of power shortages will be dealt with.

The 30th Malawi International Trade was officially opened on 24th May 2018 by His Excellency the State President of the Republic of Malawi, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika at the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre. His Excellency the State President visited the EGENCO pavilion in the COMESA hall where he was briefed on the power projects that EGENCO is implementing to increase its power production capacity. The fair will run from 24th May to 3rd June 2018 and is being held under the theme: "Industrialization: Basis for Trade Competitiveness".
