Done Deal! CEO for EGENCO, Mr William Liabunya and Mistubishi’s General Manager of International
Economic Cooperation,Mr Masato Kume shake hands after signing the contract

The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (Egenco) and Mitsubushi Corporation on Tuesday 18th July 2017 signed a contract for the construction of the Tedzani IV Hydro Power plant.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer for EGENCO, Mr William Liabunya said the project involves construction of an 18MW plant in a separate building.

“For those of you that have been to Tedzani you know that we have Tedzani 1 & 2 Power stations in one building, and then we have Tedzani 3 Power station in another building.

So, Tedzani IV power plant will also have its own separate power house building” said Liabunya.Mr Liabunya further said, the Grant Agreement with JICA was already signed on 18th March 2015. Feasibility studies were done and Preliminary designs are available. Preliminary sites works already at an advanced stage.

In his remarks, Mistubishi’s General Manager of International Economic Cooperation, Mr Masato Kume said Mitsubishi is very happy to be working in mlawi and promised that they will deliver high quality work.

The construction project for Tedzani IV is one of the project that EGENCO has embarked on to improve its generation capacity. Tedzani IV when completed will add 18 Megawatt to the national grid. The project is expected to be completed in December 2020.
